Given that there are a variety of CNC machines available today, virtually any manufacturing process that can be carried out by a human operator (and even some that may be too complex to be done manually) can now be done efficiently by a CNC machine.

Though this precursor to CNC machinery was rather rudimentary by today’s standards, it was still a giant leap in manufacturing technology at the time. These NC machines slowly evolved throughout the decades, moving from tools that used punched tape as a programming medium to those that eventually used magnetic tape readers to improve efficiency. When CNC machinery was finally introduced, many manufactures were hesitant to begin integrating them into their production lines, as they were relatively expensive and few operators actually knew how to us a CNC machine. As the numerous benefits of owning a CNC machine began to grow more apparent though, such as decreased employment costs, enhanced production value, and faster turnaround times, manufactures within virtually every industry began to see the advantages of purchasing CNC machinery for their shops and plants. The fact that CNC machinery slowly but surely began to be more affordable and more efficient than their earlier NC counterparts also helped to boost their popularity throughout the world.
